Karuna is caring for others;
Karuna is being kind to others;
Karuna is helping others;
Karuna is sharing with others.
Karuna can manifest in many forms. One need
not elaborately spend a lot of money or act
out of the way to deliberately propagate Karuna.
Here are some simple deeds which manifest
Karuna.
When you travel on the highway along the country
side in a car, a flock of sheep is crossing
the road. Instead of sounding the horn and dislocate
them, you wait till the flock crosses the road,
then move on ....This is Karuna.
A blind man is struggling to board the bus for
his destination. Find where he wants to go,
see him getting into the correct bus, then you
move away .....This is Karuna.
Donate unwanted and unused vessels of the kitchen,
toys, outgrown dresses and the like to charity.
Your cupboard will be clean..... It is Karuna.
You are waiting in a doctor's clinic in a queue.
When your turn comes and you are about to enter
the doctor's cabin, an old lady enters the clinic.
She is restless and not in a position to wait.
You let her in and be prepared to wait.....
This is Karuna.
In a crowded bus, you manage to get a seat.
In the next stop, some one with a child gets
into the bus. You offer your seat to the lady....
This is Karuna.
When a small bird unknowingly enters your window
and accidentally gets hurt by the blade of the
fan and falls down, you nurse it till it is
able to fly on its own.... This is Karuna.
Endless list of these small and noble gestures
is the manifestation of Karuna.
Mother Teresa, who rendered selfless service
and sacrifice is a personification of Karuna.
If our mind is trained to care for others we
can manifest Karuna by our words and deeds,
by simple selfless actions.
We are indeed fortunate to be born in this Bharath,
the birth place of ancient scriptures and literature
which wishes thut everything under the sky should
be safe and happy ‘Lokha Samastha Sukino
Bhavanthu.
By practising ‘Ahimsa’ we will be
able to root out terrorism from our soil. ‘Ahimsa
Pradhistayam Thath Sannidhou Vairathyaga’
- says Yoga Soothram, which means in the company
of the man who practices Ahimsa fully, even
the wicked, violent people are influenced to
follow the path of peace.
This has the twin advantage of being Ahimsavadi
and Converting others also to ahimsavadis.
Let us pledge to follow the religion of “KARUNA”
only.
